Overview
The big industry conferences - Web Summit in Lisbon, Consensus in Austin - put tens of thousands of founders, investors and press in one room, in an environment designed to overwhelm. Filecoin Foundation needed presences that could register in that crowd and position the brand credibly alongside far bigger tech marketing budgets. I led the creative direction on these activations from concept through to on-site execution, with the team and our production partners handling the build: The Filecoin Station at Web Summit 2022, and three consecutive Consensus editions from 2022 to 2024.
Approach
A show floor is a wall of product marketing, and the instinct is to add to it - more features, more screens, more claims. Every activation here ran on the opposite principle: pick one clear message and spend the whole budget making it legible. Environmental graphics, booth design and collateral all carried the same spine, so each activation read as intentional in a deliberately busy room.
The Master Plan - Consensus 2024
Consensus is the largest annual crypto conference in the US, and this was the Foundation’s third consecutive edition - the year the brief was blunt: make a statement. The Master Plan concept gave us one, and it had the advantage of being true. Filecoin’s actual long-term strategy - build the storage network, onboard the world’s data, then bring compute to that data - became the spine of the activation. The hard part was translation: turning a technical, multi-year roadmap into a narrative a passer-by could grasp in seconds, then holding that story across every surface of the booth. Rather than a wall of disconnected product messages, the space told one confident story about where Filecoin is going and how it gets there.
The Filecoin Station - Web Summit 2022
Web Summit brings 70,000+ attendees to Lisbon each year, at a density few events match. The Filecoin Station was the Foundation’s answer: a premium, self-contained space that gave people a reason to stop rather than another thing to walk past. I directed the spatial branding, environmental graphics and all event collateral from concept through to on-site execution, working to a standard that positioned the Foundation credibly alongside major tech companies with much bigger budgets. It was the first activation of its kind for the brand, and the visual language it set became the benchmark the later event work built on.
Outcomes
The Station set an early benchmark for the visual language that carried through Filecoin Foundation’s later event activations. The Master Plan booth capped the Foundation’s third consecutive Consensus and showed campaign thinking applied to event creative: a distinctive, concept-driven activation that positioned the long-term vision clearly to a crypto-native audience.
